Convergence: When Your Passion, Purpose, and Profits Align
Apr 21, 2025
Convergence: When Your Passion, Purpose, and Profits Align - Last month, I had the incredible privilege of attending the John C. Maxwell Leadership conference—an experience that left me energized, inspired, and deeply reflective about purpose and passion. A powerful session led by Tom and Tonya Telesco introduced a concept that truly resonated: Convergence—the moment when your skills, gifts, experiences, and calling align into the work you were uniquely created to do.
Convergence
Step #1 - Purpose to Profit: Answer the Call
Every dream starts with a spark. And yet, inevitably, there are crashes—moments where doubt, uncertainty, or even burnout creep in. The journey back begins when we remember why we started in the first place. That sense of purpose pushes us forward again.
It begins with your origin story—the heartbeat behind your mission:
- What have you overcome that can inspire others?
- What’s your most significant discovery in life?
- What wisdom would you share with your younger self?
Your story matters. The turning point in your life—the moment you chose to answer the call—is the foundation of everything you build from here.
Step #2 - Magnetize Your Message
Studies show that only 10–15% of people feel like they’re living in alignment with their purpose. The rest? They’re stuck in the "mushy middle"—busy, overwhelmed, and filling the void with tasks that lack meaning. Without clarity, we tend to substitute movement for progress. We mistake activity for significance.
One line that stuck with me: “Busyness is artificial significance.”
The antidote? Clarity. And that clarity allows us to trade FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) for JOMO—the Joy of Missing Out. When you know your priorities and purpose, you no longer chase every opportunity. You steward the right ones.
Your message becomes magnetic when it stems from your unique blend of passion and proficiency. This is your sweet spot—where what you love meets what you’re naturally great at. When you're operating in that space, you're not just doing the work; you're living your calling.
Ask yourself:
- What problem do I solve for others?
- If I could only be known for one thing, what would it be?
- What makes me different?
Step #3 - Master Your Methods
Turning purpose into sustainable profit isn’t about working harder—it’s about working higher. It’s about systems that support your mission without draining your energy.
Some days feel like pushing a boulder uphill. But real progress comes from daily chiseling—removing what doesn’t belong and refining what does.
Suggestions for progress:
- Power Hours: Create distraction-free time to focus on deep work.
- Non-Negotiables: Choose three essential actions each day (like Prayer, Prepare, Prospect) to keep momentum.
- Value and Boundaries: Know your worth, set your fees with confidence, and hold tight to your vision—make a plan and stay flexible with how you achieve your dream.
- Consistency: Don’t wait to feel motivated. Focus on income-producing priorities. Show up consistently, even in small ways.
Ask yourself:
- What’s the one distraction that drains your energy every day?
- Evaluate your process. Are you the right person for the task?
- Can you delegate or automate it to protect your focus?
When you free up mental and emotional bandwidth, you create space to dream, reflect, and learn to do the work only you can do.
Step #4 - Make Your Move
One of the most powerful takeaways from the conference was the reminder that we must act with urgency. The world needs your message—and you never know how much time you have to share it; we are not promised tomorrow.
The concept of Convergence is rare—only about 20% of people reach this point, often around age 50. But you don’t have to wait. Convergence happens when your gifts, skills, life experience, and sense of purpose all align. When that happens, your dream and purpose become clear, and you stop chasing opportunities—they start chasing you.
So what holds most people back?
- Fears of Failure or Success: Identify what is holding you back, and be brave to overcome.
- Procrastination: One foot in the dream, one foot stuck in safety and comfort zones.
- Life Challenges: Most people drop out during the hard seasons, but those seasons are often where your biggest breakthroughs are born.
- Lack of Mentorship: Create a personal advisory board of various disciplines, individuals who can teach and mentor you in your journey.
Growth isn't about being perfect. It’s about staying in the game. Discern who you share your dreams with. Not everyone will get it, and that’s okay. Take advice like a hat—try it on. If it fits, great. If not, leave it behind.
Step #5 - Embrace Challenges as Opportunities
Every challenge carries a hidden invitation to grow.
Ask yourself:
- What is the biggest challenge I’m facing this season?
- How might this actually be preparing me for something greater?
- Who can I confide in to gain strength and perspective?
You can either serve your weakness—or you can serve your purpose. True success isn’t a destination; it’s a byproduct of faithfully fulfilling your assignment.
Reflect and identify your purpose. Choose Convergence.
